I confess: I haven't been doing my Pilates. I had
the idea that I was getting plenty of exercise; a little bit of breath work
here, a 5 second plank there, a little stretching on occasion, a walk
to Starbucks, and then the work with the Teacher Training students ... that
must be enough, right?
Wrong. And as much as I know about the body, when I
started to put on a little too much weight, did I just start back at the studio?
No. I went on the internet to see what disease makes your stomach bigger and
lumpier. I Googled "Cellulite and Illness." I swear to god. And I call
myself a fitness professional!
So when I came to my senses and remembered that the
only disease I had was one of resistance, rationalization and too many
episodes of "Law and Order," I gave myself a little pep talk and got back
into the studio. I got back to Pilates. And it was heaven.
For whatever reason, it is so easy to talk
ourselves out of doing the next right thing. But just remember, as I did when I
returned to classes over the past week, that Pilates is always the right thing
to do. It will make us feel strong and clear so we can perform better, think
better, live better.
And as though that isn't enough, we'll look better
naked too!
So I'll see you in class. We now have 48
Reformer classes alone, not to mention Mat Classes and Yoga, so it's going to be
really hard to tell ourselves that we just can't fit exercise into our
schedule!

Classes, Classes and More
Classes.
We have been adding classes every week. Check out
the new Advanced Mat Class on Sundays at noon at the Oakley studio, the Tuesday
1:00 pm Mat Class in Oakley, or the return of XXX at 11:00 am Saturday,
Downtown. Plus we have Reformer classes on Saturdays and Sundays in BOTH
locations. We now have 48 (!!) Reformer classes. So there is no reason to go a
week without Pilates!

schedule your Reformer session. Or just drop by for a mat or yoga
class.

Yoga!
Compliment your Pilates with our alignment-based
yoga, taught by Donna Covrett. The beginner class on Thursday night at 6 pm
downtown was so popular we had to add another class at 6 pm on Tuesday night!
Classes are 90 minutes. $12 drop in, $50 for five session pass.

Pilates For Golf
Pendleton Pilates is pleased to announce Pilates
for Golf™.
Pilates
for Golf re-trains the body to
overcome its natural tendencies and compensations to get you lower scores,
longer drives, and reduced injuries. The golf-conditioning program is based upon
the concept of building strength while simultaneously increasing stability,
flexibility, balance and core control: all of the elements of a great
swing.
The
program begins with a golf-specific body assessment to test performance of the
most common movements required for a good golf swing and then prescribes
specific Pilates mat and equipment exercises for each test. Finally, the golfer will take home a
packet with instructions on mat exercises for home and a Game Day stretching
program.
The
golfer can then work his or her body conditioning program in Pendleton Pilates
Private or Group Reformer classes. We recommend a follow-up assessment after at
least 15 sessions. Find out what Butch Harmon already knows about Pilates for
Golf. He is working on a DVD with Pilates for Golf founders to show the profound
merits of the program!
The Pilates for Golf introductory, two-hour session is $85. Session will
include an hour-long golf-specific body assessment, prescribed exercises and
homework and game day review.
