Are You Breathing?

In the last several days, since New Orleans fell, I feel like I've stopped breathing. I've been watching CNN with my breath held and teeth clenched, waiting for the next horrific development. And while I believe it is important to be informed and connected, I know I am a bit of a bad news junky. That's why I had to put myself on a plan. My feel-better plan is always the same: more Pilates and yoga, more 12-step meetings, less television, sugar and caffeine.

When I quit breathing and quit moving, I literally don't know what to do. I lose clarity and hope. When I get into right action, I can always figure out the next right thing. One of the worst things about emotionally coping with this disaster in the Gulf States is that it is hard to discern what is the next right thing. But thanks to teacher Brian Magnarini, I know one thing we can do. Brian is organizing a drive with Matthew 25, a Blue Ash ministry dedicated to fulfilling Matthew 25: 31-46 -- "to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give drink to the thirsty, shelter the homeless and visit the sick and imprisoned." This organization collects and ships goods year-round and has already sent a shipment to the New Orleans area. Read more here. http://www.enquirer.com/editions/1998/10/13/loc_matthew13.html

Please bring cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products, diapers, water and non-perishable food to either the Oakley or Downtown studio and Brian will make sure the items go directly to Matthew 25 and in turn, to the hardest hit areas in the Gulf region.

And keep breathing. Stay in right action and take care of yourself. We will all do the right thing when it becomes clear what that is. If they need money, we send it. If they need supplies, we'll send it. And if they need volunteers, we'll go. But we need the clarity and good health to be able to understand how to be of the greatest possible service, here in our community and for the world.

So rather than missing a class this week, take an extra one and help us make a donation to the Red Cross. Between now and September 18th, for every person over our average weekly attendance of 270, we will donate $10 to the Red Cross.

Breath. Move. Give. That's our 3-step plan to work through this together.

True Body Project Update

This summer, I had the amazing opportunity to work with 13 extraordinary teenage girls in a pilot program called the True Body Project. Please visit www.truebodyproject.org more information and to see the wonderful press coverage we received. Also, check out the September 7th cover story for City Beat this week by yoga and True Body teacher Donna Covrett!

And please join us on Thursday, September 22nd at 7 pm at the Cincinnati Art Museum (DeWitt entrance) as we premiere the True Body Project documentary film by April Martin and Selena Burks and/or on Friday, September 23rd at 7 pm at Joseph Beth Books in Rookwood for a reading/signing of the 214-page literary journal the girls created over the summer. You can help more girls in future True Body programs if you order a special edition book, signed by the girls and packaged with a DVD of the documentary. And soon, you'll be able to purchase a special True Body charm, created by client Sarah Squeri. Details on the special edition book orders.

If you are interested in joining a group of women for a True Body leadership experience this fall, let me know at stacy@truebodyproject.org Or if you are interested in other True Body experiences or donating funds to this non-profit agency dedicated to helping girls and women connect to their bodies, their voices and their strength, don't hesitate to email or call my cell at 470-5548.

You can use your pass at our two new off-site classes too. See schedule below:
