ThanksGIVING News

I confess. I am in a bit of a panic. You may not yet know this about me but I am a bit of a control freak and I am not feeling one bit in control. I wrote a novel that I am not sure will sell. I have started another, just in case (and to keep me from thinking too much and panicking). I am trying to figure out how to fund future True Body programs so that more teen girls can take part in this important work to honor their bodies and raise their voices. These are good things; I'm not complaining about the work itself. There is just a lot of uncertainty for me right now.

Then there is our uncertain world: hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, and the rising costs of just about everything. And then our children (yes, you, Nick Sharp) with sensible, earnest questions about how to make good decisions for the future (I am not going to lie to you, dear. I have no bloody idea. I have been winging it now for 44 years.)

Post-Katrina, I wrote about my cure-all, feel-good plan: breathe, move, give. And thanks to all of you, we did a lot of all of the above at Pendleton Pilates. Through your donations, Brian Magnarini made several trips to Matthew 25 to drop off supplies that went directly to the Gulf Region.

But I'm thinking that to right this ship of mine, I need to move, breathe and give some more. Maybe we all do. How steady does your boat feel these days?

Since Thanksgiving and the holidays are fast-approaching, here is the plan. It has a few parts to it, so I'll break it down.

1. I will be teaching two free classes on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday 11/24, to say thanks to all of you for helping Pendleton Pilates be a place of stable support for so many people. My mother, Sheila, and Sarah Eastlake also wish to give thanks to you by teaching a free class that day. Classes are available on a first come, first served basis. The classes will be held at the downtown studio and we'll drag an extra reformer in so we can fit up to seven people in each class. Call Shannon at 513-478-3232 to sign up!

9:00 am - Work Out With Sheila
10 am - Class with Sarah
11 am - Ball Class with Stacy
12 pm - Class with Stacy

2. From Wednesday November 23, through Wednesday, December 14th, I will be teaching a master Reformer class at the Downtown Studio at 7 pm. All clients are welcome and the cost is the same as your regular classes. I look forward to working with you and sharing some new ideas and old favorites of mine.

3. Now it's your turn!

We want to keep our community growing and you are our best advocates for the work we do. So between now and December 31, 2005, all active clients (at least six classes over a six-week period) are entitled to receive a Pendleton Gift Certificate for you to give to a friend or colleague; anyone who is not currently a client at Pendleton Pilates. The certificate will entitle the bearer to either an Initial Consultation Intensive (2 1/2 hour workshop-style introduction to the Reformer work) or two free Mat, Ball and/or Yoga classes. Their certificate is good through March 31, 2006.

So if you need to get your own active status re-activated, you've got time. Shannon can tell you if you need to schedule more classes to be able to receive a gift certificate to give to a friend. This way you will be breathing, moving AND giving the gift of Pilates to someone who might not be able to make the initial investment but you just know will love the work.

We've got more Holiday gift ideas coming (think t-shirts (coming soon!), True Body books, additional gift certificates at 20% discount to Pendleton clients, and more). So plan on doing all your shopping with us!

Whew. I feel better already.

Breathe, move, give.
Tell the truth.
Teach.

These are the things I do know.  Thanks for reminding me. Now I need to go call my son.

Holiday Wellness Seminar

This is the hardest time of year to stick with our fitness, diet and wellness programs. Join Stacy Sims and guest Nicole R. Hemmert RD, LD for a two-hour session from noon-2 pm on Sunday, December 4th at the downtown studio that will include simple and effective Pilates exercises you can do at home and on the road, important nutrition information from Nicole. Nicole completed her undergraduate studios at Ohio University with a B.S. in Dietetics and Community Nutrition as well as her B.B.A. in Small Business Entrepreneurship. Nicole has specialized in the treatment of eating disorders since 1999, but is well practiced in the treatment and education of diabetes mellitus, cardiac complications, renal disease, and obesity and weight reductions.  Nicole is an advisory member to the Ohio University didactic program and active member of the American Dietetic Association and other professional organizations while regularly participating in continuing education conferences and workshops.  She is a speaker to community and professional audiences and has presented at the International Conference of the Academy of Eating Disorders.

You'll take home information you can use to stay on track over the holidays while still having fun at your holiday events. And you'll earn two, free "emergency" classes at Pendleton that you can use when you have over indulged or under exercised. The class is $50 and is limited to 25 people. Advance registration and $25 deposit required. Please call Shannon at 513-478-3232 to hold your space in this fun and informative program.

How Are We Doing?

We know that you have many options available to you for fitness. And we know that it is not a small thing to commit your time and your money to your workout at Pendleton Pilates. So we are going to work as hard as we can to make the hour or two a week you spend with us the best thing you do all week long.

To that end, let us know how we are doing. Are you stimulated in your classes? Does the class schedule work with your schedule? Are we responding to you quickly?

Please feel free to email us at info@pendletonpilates.com with your feedback. If you wish to do so anonymously, we will post "Suggestion" envelopes at each studio.

True Body Project Update

If you missed our film premiere and/or signing, join us this Friday, October 28th at InkTank on Main Street at 7 pm for another screening of the True Body Project documentary and for another fantastic reading by the True Body teens. And please take a close look at the True Body Project literary journal. We will soon have copies at both studios. This would be a wonderful holiday gift for girls and women (and even you sensitive, Pilates men!) Your contributions ($20 for the literary journal) will help us pay for future True Body programs. Visit www.truebodyproject.org for more information.

And coming soon! True Body charms by client Sarah Squeri! Look for a sample at the studios.

We've Got Parking at Oakley!

Great news!  The new parking lot next to our Oakley studio is now open.  You can park there for free.  You can access the lot from Tracey Dr. (immediately behind the studio) and Madison Rd..  Tracey Dr. and the recycling center lot are still off limits unless you purchase a decal from the owner.  For further details, please call Studio Manager Shannon (513)478-3232.

More Ball Classes

If you haven't tried a ball class yet, we have more opportunities for you to give it a try. It is a great workout and it is a lot of fun, not to mention a really excellent Pilates workout. The ball demands that you work the correct muscles, helping to focus the mind and balance the body. It is the best priced "equipment" class you can take! It is $10 per class or $80 for 10 classes. You can use your pass at our two new off-site classes too. See schedule below:

Please do let us know in advance if you can attend (or have to cancel your reservation) so we can make sure to have enough space for you.

Tuesdays at 6 pm at the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati located Downtown
Thursdays at 6 pm at our Downtown studio
Sundays at 10 am at our Downtown studio

Let Us Convert You to An Unlimited Package!

Nearly 30 of our clients are enjoying the benefit of Unlimited Pilates and Yoga by signing up for our six-month or year-long Unlimited Package. This package entitles you to unlimited Group Reformer classes, XXX Reformer classes, Ball Classes, Mat Classes, and Yoga classes. You can contract with us to purchase a six-month package for $185 per month or a year package for $160 a month.

This is a great opportunity to save a little money on your regular Pilates routine.  If you're currently coming at least twice a week, you'd need a minimum of 8 sessions in your package a month. Our 10 session package is $210 so our unlimited program is likely a good deal for you.  By taking advantage of our Unlimited Pilates and Yoga package, you'll not only save money on your regular Reformer sessions, but you'll also be able to attend our  Mat classes, Ball classes, Yoga classes, and XXX Reformer class.  For more details, contact Shannon at 513.478.3232.

Teacher Training - January

What better way to pass the time over the winter than to up your Pilates dosage and learn to be a Pilates teacher! Think about it --- for your tuition ($2500) you get free Pilates for four months and the ability to continue to take free Pilates at the studio if you become a Pendleton teacher. And if you teach even a couple of hours a week for the remainder of the year, coupled with what you would be paying for Pilates anyway, you will have paid off your investment in a year.

Please contact Stacy or Shannon for more information. Class is limited to eight people.

Time Change

It's that time of year again.  Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday 10/30 at 2 am.  Don't forget to turn back your clock!
