A month ago I was struggling to get my head around a few things. I was trying to solve a few business and personal questions and was starting to spend quite a bit of time spinning scenarios around in my brain in order to deconstruct every idea I had about what was the EXACT right thing to do. As is always the way with these kind of brain tussles, especially the middle-of-the-night versions, I ended up feeling confused and fearful; not to mention exhausted.

Then I had the seriously good fortune to spend a few days out of town immersed in the luxury world where you get to ritually reconnect mind and body. I got to go to a spa.

It was on my second day there when I remembered myself. I was lying on the floor of a Pilates and yoga studio. I had been privately reminded for over an hour to remember my chakras and to move my breath through my body. During the session, my lovely instructor invited me to focus as much on the inhale as the exhale. And somewhere during that hour of movement, I realized that if I expanded my lungs and my chest just a tad more and if I rode the wave of that expansion with my movements, I could feel, literally, the fullness and the richness of the potential of every single moment and every single breath. I could feel, finally, the divine wholeness of my existence. I could feel, knowingly, the answers to the questions that had been troubling me.

And here is the thing. I have never ever had an epiphany of any sort while staring at the ceiling in the middle of the night. I have never come to a place of gratitude or knowing or compassion while exercising my thumb muscle on the remote control. I have never come to a place of right action in inaction. I find my way back to my right mind when I move my body with intention.

I know it is the same for you. That is why you keep coming back. And because you keep coming back to remember yourself, we have been able to grow to offer more classes for more people in more locations.

We thank you immensely for your patronage. And we hope you will enjoy our new Madison Road studio, our upcoming True Body class and a host of other new offerings.

Trainees and Trainers At the Blakely Family YMCA
Pendleton Pilates Takes Training On The Road

Sarah Eastlake, April White-Plank, Stacy Sims and other Pendleton teachers worked with the Somerset team in Kentucky and when they visited our studios.

Beyond Weight Loss

Brenda Ziegler at the Downtown Studio
The holidays were fast approaching and being at an all time high in my weight as well as totally out of shape due to lack of any formalized exercise program for a number of years, I knew I had to get serious about not gaining another pound during this Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years season. I was in desperate need of a new attitude and a different approach from my numerous previous attempts to lose weight and begin exercising. I’ve never liked going to the gym and the idea of another yo-yo diet effort was more than I could think about, but, this was getting serious because it was beginning to negatively affect my health. I’m ashamed to admit that between the excess weight and my inflexible body, I could barely reach my feet, comfortably, to put on my socks and began to feel all kinds of aches and pains associated with being an inactive and overweight person. I felt overwhelmed and definitely out of control.

I decided my new approach for regaining control had to start with an exercise plan and then add the food plan. I needed to find something I wanted to do consistently and a place I wanted to go for coaching and assistance in gaining back strength and hopefully some flexibility. A co-worker had been coming to Pendleton Pilates for months and just couldn’t say enough about how great it was, but I had been tuning her out because she is young and fit and I was afraid it wasn’t something I could do. However, an article in the Enquirer about Pilates that focused on how it is great for all ages and all fitness (or unfit) levels helped me realize I needed to explore this with an open mind because it sounded like what I was looking for. Since Stacy Sims and Pendleton Pilates were interviewed for the article I went directly to the web-site to learn all I could about Pilates and the next week made my appointment for my introductory sessions.

Well, I’ve found my new attitude and the place I belong with Pendleton Pilates. I knew after my first group reformer class that this was something I could do for life and I trusted that consistency would provide me results. I incorporated the South Beach diet into my plan and I’m happy to report I did not gain one pound this holiday season and never made one excuse to miss a Pilates class. To my surprise, I even scheduled extra classes during this very busy time and found myself working my social calendar around my Pilates schedule. To date, my overall results have far exceeded my expectations as I have dropped an incredible number of inches all over my body and lost 23 pounds. I’m down two sizes in my tops and down one size, soon to be two in my slacks. I am delighted, amazed and incredibly motivated by my success and even more importantly, I’m thrilled by the fact that I am more flexible than I’ve been in years. Getting my socks on is absolutely not a problem any longer. An additional bonus has been eliminating my need to take the medication I was on for chronic heart burn and acid reflux. I feel like a new person and I’m having fun. Amazing!!

I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate everyone I’ve had the privilege to meet and work with at Pendleton Pilates. Stacy, Shannon and all of the Reformer instructors have been so personable and helpful not to mention they all “kick butt” with their expertise and caring approach to making every class a different, challenging and productive session. I’m amazed that no two sessions are the same and they really do make it fun. While the classes are “group”, I always feel like my personal needs are being met as the instructors are attentive to each individual in the class to ensure we are maximizing our workout through correct form and breathing techniques. I’ve just learned so much about my body and its potential through the guidance and caring efforts of the very first class staff here at Pendleton Pilates.

I am so excited to have finally found the place I actually look forward to coming to for my workout. The tranquil, soothing environment, the friendly clientele, and the superb staff, who truly care about me achieving my goals, have all provided me motivation and helped me find the real mind and body connection I’ve long been seeking. I know through my Pendleton Pilates experience, I’m well on my way to achieving my long-term goals for a healthy and fit lifestyle. I’m definitely looking forward to the journey because I’ve got a great team by my side.
